Why create Asateer?
Hi I'm Shams - meaning sun in Arabic! Growing up, I was fascinated by myths and legends. But in Canada most of the stories I heard were about Greek and Roman gods and heroes. I was yearning to hear about the vibrant stories and cultures from my own country - Tunisia - and other non-Western countries. This desire inspired me to create Asateer!
Drawing loosely from my own adventures as an outdoor educator and travel guide, Noor explores the world and shares what she learns along the way. The photo of me with an iceberg captures a moment from my 2023 travels to Greenland and Nunavut. There, I created watercolor inks and paints using samples of rocks, soil, and kitchen scraps—an incredibly fun and rewarding project. Join me on this colorful journey as we discover the beauty and diversity of world mythology together!
